European markets, which opened after the Indian market, traded on a mixed note. Key benchmark indices like – CAC 40 was trading higher by 0.03% at 3,973.52 and FTSE 100 advanced by 0.06% at 5,904.04. On the flipside, in Frankfurt, the DAX index was trading down by 0.24% at 6,929.40.

The BSE Auto index was at 8,982.42 up by 134.42 points or by 1.52%. The major gainers were Tata Motors Ltd (Rs. 1220.30, 3.25%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (Rs. 1201.80, 1.69%), Cummins India Ltd (Rs. 663.40, 1.65%), Apollo Tyres Ltd (Rs. 69.30, 1.39%) and Bajaj Auto Ltd (Rs. 1399.30, 1.35%).

The BSE CG index was at 13,184.49 up by 165.5 points or by 1.27%. The main gainers were Larsen & Toubro Ltd (Rs. 1639.20, 2.56%), Alstom Projects India Ltd (Rs. 570.10, 2.25%), Praj Industries Ltd (Rs. 73.80, 1.44%), Punj Lloyd Ltd (Rs. 64.35, 1.26%) and ABB Ltd (Rs. 790.75, 0.91%).

On the corporate front, shares of Marico Ltd surged by 2.72% to Rs. 134.10, at the back of the news that the company has divested Sweekar to Cargill India. Sweekar was contributing only 5% to the company’s revenue and was low margin business. Selling it would now help the company focus on launching new products under the high margin and value added Saffola range.

As far as, extreme short term charts are concerned, Nifty has achieved the bullish targets of 5650-5700 which were set after it gave bullish breakout from a "Declining Channel" pattern having resistance at 5500. 

Now after a rise of nearly 355 points in last 6 consecutive sessions, Nifty has entered in overbought zones with negative divergences in no. of momentum oscillators which can initiate corrective decline to 5625 & 5580 which may be achieved soon. 

There are 2 breakout gaps also which need to be filled. On the bullish side, Nifty can touch 5975-6000 in coming few weeks. Therefore anticipated corrective decline may be used for positional buying with broad SL of 5500.

As far as bar reversal in Daily charts are concerned, stock like Hind Oil, Cipla, TVS Motors, Great Offshore, ACC, GMR Infra, MLL, India Infoline, PTC, Oswal Chem have given "Upward Bar Reversal" while Reliance Ind., Tata Steel, DLF Ltd., Grasim, Kotak Bank, HDIL, Voltas Ltd., Renuka Sugar, Aban Offshore, BPCL etc. have given "Downward Bar Reversal". Stocks like PBA Infra, Sterlite Ind., Archies, Parsvnath, Koutons, LML, U Flex, LIC Housing, Action Const., Atlas Cycles have shown  spurt during the day with unusually high volumes.

Nifty Future Tips


On Thursday, the domestic market continued its winning streak for the second consecutive day tracking the firm Asian markets. Moreover, the recovery in the European markets after a dismal opening boosted the investors’ sentiments that led the market to gain further grounds towards the final hour of the trade. Asian markets were mostly positive except Japan, where the risk appetite remained subdued due to consequences of earthquake in Japan as contamination extended through the Tokyo area. 

The FIIs on Thursday stood as net buyer in equity and debt. Gross equity purchased stood at Rs. 1931.70 Crore and gross debt purchased stood at Rs. 2004.30 Crore, while the gross equity sold stood at Rs. 1538.30 Crore and gross debt sold stood at Rs. 1766.60 Crore. Therefore, the net investment of equity and debt reported were Rs. 393.40 Crore and Rs. 237.70 Crore.

Top traded Volumes on NSE Nifty future – Jaiprakash Associates Ltd. 13697233, Infrastructure Development Finance Company Ltd. 9626812, Hindalco Industries Ltd. 9414606, ITC Ltd. 5421895, Reliance Communications Ltd. 4598136.

On BSE, total number of shares traded was 31.85 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 3450.59 Crore. On NSE, total number of shares traded was 58.78 Crore and total turnover stood at Rs. 10685.20 Crore.

On NSE Future and Options, total number of contracts traded in index futures was 476000 with a total turnover of Rs. 12442.71 Crore. Along with this total number of contracts traded in stock futures were 631295 with a total turnover of Rs. 15469.92 Crore. Total numbers of contracts for index options were 2484415 with a total turnover of Rs. 68553.71 Crore. and total numbers of contracts for stock options were 101395 with a total turnover of Rs. 2607.83 Crore.

Today, Nifty future would have a support at 5,496 and resistance at 5,567 and BSE Sensex has support at 18,263 and resistance at 18,497.

The key equity averages are likely to open positive as Asian stocks are trading higher on the back of positive finish in the Wall Street and the South Korean Won surged to a two-week high on anticipation that the global economic recovery will withstand Europe’s debt crisis. Further, Japan’s Nikkei 225 Stock Average is trading higher by 1% to 9,529.14 as the outlook for orders to rebuild after the country’s worst earthquake, and as U.S. report reported a decline in unemployment claims.

On the global markets front, almost all the major indices in Asia ended on a positive note. The Nikkei225, Taiwan Weighted, Seoul Composite, Shanghai Composite and Hang Seng advanced by 2.72% at 9,206.75, 1.35% at 8,394.75, 1.13% at 1,981.13, 0.42% at 2,909.40 and 0.07% at 22,300.23 respectively.

European markets, which opened after the Indian market, traded on a positive note. Key benchmark indices like – CAC 40 was trading higher by 0.70% at 3,812.61, FTSE 100 advanced by 0.60% at 5,730.42 and in Frankfurt, DAX index was trading up by 0.60% at 6,696.87.

The BSE Oil&Gas index was at 9,688.38 down by 265.89 points or by 2.67%. The main losers were Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 993.15, 3.71%), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 561.05, 2.20%), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 331.05, 1.95%), Oil India Ltd. (Rs. 1253.70, 1.59%) and Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 302.65, 1.09%).

The BSE Auto index was at 8,485.3 down by 174.17 points or by 2.01%. The main losers were Exide Industries Ltd. (Rs. 130.80, 4.60%), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 632.95, 3.31%), Apollo Tyres Ltd. (Rs. 64.90, 2.84%), Hero Honda Motors Ltd. (Rs. 1474.15, 2.35%) and Ashok Leyland Ltd. (Rs. 52.05, 2.25%).

On the corporate front, shares of Subex Ltd surged 2.43% to Rs 50.55 following reports that the company has secured a multi-million dollar deal to provide a software product to a telecom company in the Middle East.

On the corporate front, share of Fortis Healthcare Ltd rose 0.88% to Rs 154.05 following reports that the company has signed an agreement with TotipotentRX Therapy to set up stem cell therapy centres and for stem cell clinical trials across its selective hospitals.

On the macroeconomic front, Prime Minister's Economic Advisory Council Chairman C Rangarajan said that to attain higher growth rate, the country has to lower its current account deficit to around 2.5%. The rise in merchandise exports could do a lot to bring down trade deficit. Had the services exports also kept pace this fiscal, trade deficit and the overall CAD would have been much lower under 3%.

Today, the domestic bourses ended the session on a positive note as the benchmarks indices witnessed hefty buying across the key sectors after a disappointing trade the previous day. 

The sentiments across the board boosted on the back of easing in the crude oil prices, which have rallied to 29 months high and also the easing of the political worries in the domestic arena as DMK, a key allay to the UPA government, which had earlier said that it would pull out its ministers from the UPA government yesterday said that it has put the decision on hold on the back of request from Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, also give some confidence to the market participants to book fresh positions. 

The firmness in the market was witnesses since the initial following the higher Asian markets, which recovered after a subdued start. Asian stock markets ended higher today, with merger activity bolstering Tokyo shares, while a mild fallback in crude-oil futures lifted investor sentiment. Meanwhile, the European market are trading on positive note due to the easing of the investor concerns over the high crude prices after OPEC said it is in talks to increase production. 


Soon after the gap up opening, the market inched up further but the profit booking at higher levels lead to pare some of its initial gains. However, a V shape recovery from the day’s low was witnessed after every fall from the .
day’s high. However, the benchmark indices gained further momentum towards the end to touch fresh intraday high with NSE Nifty touching 5,530.55 and BSE Sensex touching 18,466.81. Despite of a rangebound trade for most part of the day, the benchmarks were seen closing with more than 1% losses each.

ONMOBILE, ABAN, ZEEL & DRL have seen long build up in trade.
RPOWER, MPHASIS & RECLTD saw short covering in trade.
INDIAINFO, EDUCOMP & ASHOKLEY saw shorts getting piled.
GVKPIL, ESCORT & JETAIRWAYS are among the major counters that saw long unwinding in trade.

Nifty volatility Index rose to 25.22 from 22.91, increased by 10.08%.

Total Nifty futures shed 0.87mn shares in open interest.

Call open interest for March series shed 0.73mn shares in Open Interest.

Put open interest for March series shed 165mn shares in Open Interest.

Nifty put call ratio of open interest now stands at 1.26 vs 1.27.

Nifty put call ratio of volume now stands at 0.94 vs 1.09.

Nifty Future Trading Tips


On the global stock markets front, almost all the major indices in Asia ended on a positive note. The Seoul Composite, Taiwan Weighted, Nikkei225 and Hang Seng and Nikkei225 advanced by 2.20% at 1,970.66, 1.37% at 8,738.37, 0.89% at 10,586.02 and 0.32% at 23,122.42 respectively.
